Chapter 5 Teaching Everyone to Fish Was Never Going to Be That Simple: Challenges in Incorporating Learner Development into a Speaking Curriculum

 

 

 

Nathan Ducker

At the time of writing this chapter in 2012 and 2013 Nathan Ducker was a lecturer at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University. From April 2014 he began working as an Associate Professor at Miyazaki Municipal University where he teaches intercultural communication and various English skills classes. His research areas include willingness to communicate, extensive listening, and formative assessment practice in curriculum design. He is currently in the second year of his PhD program at Aston University (UK) investigating willingness to communicate with Japanese EFL students.

 

2012 ~ 2013年に本章を手掛けた頃、筆者は立命館アジア太平洋大学の講師であった。2014年4月より、宮崎公立大学の助教授として異文化間コミュニケーション及び様々な英語スキルのクラスを指導している。主な研究分野は第二言語コミュニケーション意欲、多聴(EL)、カリキュラムデザインにおける形成的評価。現在イギリスのアストン大学院PhDプログラムの2年目に在籍し、日本のEFL学生とコミュニケーションする為の意欲について研究している。

 James Dean (JD) Brown

James Dean (JD) Brown is Professor of Second Language Studies at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He specializes in language testing, curriculum design, program evaluation, research methods, and connected speech. In addition to over 250 book chapters and journal articles, he has published two dozen books, including The Elements of Language Curriculum (Heinle & Heinle, 1995); Using Surveys in Language Programs (Cambridge, 2001); Doing Applied Linguistic Research (with Rodgers, Oxford, 2002); Testing in Language Programs (McGraw Hill, 2005); and Teaching Chinese, Japanese, and Korean heritage students (with Kondo-Brown, LEA, 2008); as well as six volumes of National Foreign Language Resource Center, University of Hawai, monographs.

 

ハワイ大学マノア校第二言語研究科教授。主な専門分野は言語テスト、カリキュラムデザインやプログラム評価、研究メソッド、連続発話。250を超える著書や学術論文に加え、ハワイ大学National Foreign Language Resource Centerのモノグラフを6巻、また下記著書を含む24冊の本を出版している。

Mark Posselieus
I have been living in Japan for a total of 25 years and have been the head teacher (Shihan) of the karate club at Ritsumeikan University in Beppu, Japan since the year 2000. I also run my own English conversation school, which was established in 2004. I have been practicing karate for 25 years and have attained my 6th degree black belt as well as my all-Japan judges' certification. Previously I lived in Kyoto at which time I taught for a private elementary school for 4 years as well as at various conversation schools.

 

25年間日本在住。2000年より大分県別府市の立命館アジア太平洋大学の空手クラブ師範として指導。2004年に設立した英会話スクールも経営している。25年間空手を実践しており、黒帯六段と全日本空手道連盟の審判員の資格を取得している。以前は京都在住。私立小学校で4年間教鞭をとり、英会話スクールにも勤務した経験を持つ。
