Peter Cassidy
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in English from Carleton University in 1990, Peter entered the field of child-care education. Peter is a licensed teacher and has completed a Master of Arts degree (TESOL) through Columbia University Teachers College. Peter’s current research has as its focus the benefits of respecting mother tongue (L1) in L2 learning environments, and his dissertation entitled “Language Shift and Revitalization” also touches on the importance of respecting all languages regardless of their perceived importance in a “globalised” world. Peter has lived in Tokyo since 2001 and currently works as the ELL Coordinator at the Canadian International School in Tokyo.

1990年にカールトン大学を英語学専攻で学士取得後、幼児教育分野に進み、教職免許取得。コロンビア大学ティーチャーズカレッジにて修士 (TESOL)取得。現在、第二言語学習環境において母国語を重んじる利点に焦点を当てる研究を手掛ける。さらに、論文「言語シフトと再生 (Language Shift and Revitalization)」では、グローバル世界において全ての言語を尊重することの重要性を論じる。2001年より東京在住。現在、カナディアンインターナショナルスクール(東京)ELLコーディネーター。
Mike Nix
I teach English and Cultural Studies in the Law Faculty at Chuo University in Tokyo, with a focus on helping students develop a critical, purposeful, self-directed engagement through research with social and political issues of concern to them. Influenced by the critique of languages as autonomous systems, and by a view of language use as mobile, hybrid, de-territorialised practices, I have recently become interested in the possibilities for my students to make use of their English and Japanese language resources in combination to research and discuss issues translingually.

中央大学法学部において英語とカルチュラル・スタディーズを教える。学生それぞれが興味のある社会的•政治的問題についてリサーチし、批判的思考と目的意識を伴う主体的な学習を発展させることに注力している。特に最近は、言語を自律したシステムとしてとらえることへの批判、そして流動的・複合的で脱領域化された実践としての言語使用という観点に基づき、学生が英語と日本語の二言語を使用して問題を言語横断的にリサーチし議論することが持つ可能性に注目している。
Michael Mahon
Michael Mahon is the current PYP (Primary Years Program) coordinator at the Canadian International School, Tokyo. Having taught through numerous language programs and with diverse language schools in Japan Michael has a broad set of experiences to draw upon in the field of English language education. As an educator accredited in Canada Michael has had the opportunity of teaching in public and private schools in North America, the Middle-East, and Japan.
