Chapter 2 Autonomy or Fauxtonomy: Co-constructing roles in a

learner autonomy course

 

Martin Mullen

Martin Mullen has taught at various institutions in Ireland and Japan, and is currently a lecturer in the International Studies Department at Meisei University in Tokyo, Japan. His main research interests are in the areas of autonomy, motivation, and technology-assisted language learning, with a particular interest in the teacher’s role in facilitating students’ development of a capacity for autonomy. He has published in the areas of task-based learning, language learning strategies, and collaborative learning.

マーティン・マレンはアイルランドと日本の数々の学校で指導経験がある。明星大学国際コミュニケーション学科講師。主な研究内容は自立学習、モチベーション、テクノロジーを使った語学学習、特に学生の自律性を高めるための教員の役割について。タスク型学習、言語学習ストラテジー、協同学習についての論文がある。

Chris Fitzgerald

Chris Fitzgerald was awarded a Masters in English Language Teaching from the University of Limerick in 2010. His masters’ research focused on corpus linguistics and discourse analysis of Irish English. Since then he has worked in a number of third level institutions in Japan. He now teaches in the Department of British and American Studies at Kyoto University of Foreign Studies where his main research interests are Self Regulated Learning, CALL and Project Based Learning.

 

クリス・フィッツジェラルド

2010年リムリック大学英語教授法修士課程修了。修士論文の研究はアイルランド英語の談話分析とコーパスについて。日本における多数の大学での講師経験があり、現在は京都外国語大学英米語学科で授業を担当。主な研究内容は自己調整学習、CALL学習とプロジェクト型学習。

Paul Crook

Born in England, Paul Crook has taught students of practically all ages, and from a diversity of cultural and social backgrounds. He has taught at universities in Japan, Australia and Hong Kong. His courses have covered most aspects of the English language, and usually emphasize the importance of critical analysis and the ability to think for oneself.  Paul is also interested in first language acquisition, and is concerned by declining standards of literacy and the interplay of, and overemphasis on, technology in this regard. Quite how anyone could ever have suggested that not teaching phonics was a good idea he finds incomprehensible. Paul now teaches at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

 

ポール・クルック

イギリス生まれ。ポール・クルックはこれまで幅広い年齢層を対象に、文化的・社会的にも多様な学生達を教えた経験を持つ。日本、オーストラリア、香港の大学で授業を担当し、いずれの授業でも英語をあらゆる側面から学び、そして批判的な思考力と学習者が自分で考える能力の育成を主眼とする授業を実践してきた。主な研究分野は第一言語習得、テクノロジーによる識字率の低下。言語学習におけるフォニックス廃止には反対の立場である。現在は香港中文大学で教える。

Phil Benson

Phil Benson is Professor of Applied Linguistics at Macquarie University, Australia. His main research interest is in autonomy and informal language learning beyond the classroom, which has recently led him into research projects on study abroad, language learning and
new digital media, and the roles of popular culture in second language learning. Within these areas he has a particular interest in the idea of language learning as second language identity development. Phil's especially interested in narrative inquiry as an approach to research on language learning beyond the classroom and is co-author of Narrative Inquiry in Language Teaching and Learning Research (Routledge, 2013).

オーストラリアのマッコーリー大学応用言語学教授。主な研究分野はオートノミーと教室外での言語学習。最近では海外留学、デジタルメディアと言語学習、第二言語学習におけるポップカルチャーの役割にまで研究を広げている。中でも、第二言語アイデンティティ発達としての言語学習、そして教室外の言語学習の研究手法としてナラティブ・インクワイアリー(物語論的研究)に特に関心を抱いている。Narrative Inquiry in Language Teaching and Learning Research (Routledge, 2013)共著。

Michael Hennessy

Michael Hennessy is Education Programmes Manager, Continuing & Professional Education, at the University of Limerick, Ireland. Michael is responsible for collaboration with industry to design, accredit and deliver education programmes that address the 21st century skill needs of the Irish economy. His career has focused on the development of training and education for those in employment, and expanding the range and flexibility of accredited courses from third level institutions that address the 21st century skills and competency needs of industry. Michael's specialities include course design, accreditation, delivery mechanisms, progression routes and industry academic interaction, recognition of prior experience and learning.

リメリック大学生涯教育学部・教育プログラムマネージャー。企業などの産業分野と共同で、アイルランドの経済分野で必要とされる21世紀型スキルに対応するための教育プログラムを設計、認証、及び運営している。就業者向けの研修と教育の発展を主眼とし、21世紀型スキルや企業で必要なスキルの向上を目指す大学の認証評価にも携わってきた。主な研究分野は授業設計、認証評価、デリバリーメカニズム、キャリア教育、産学連携、リカレント教育。
